Explanation of Chart
• Every song in the Children’s Harp hymnal is represented in the Hymn Chart.
• Songs are categorized by key signatures and then further divided into three levels. The levels correspond roughly with Levels 1-3 of a general piano method series (such as Bastien or Schaum or Alfred). The levels are somewhat arbitrary, so you may disagree with me on a few.
• NOTE: The Levels 1-3 of this Children’s Harp chart DO NOT correspond with the Levels 1-3 of the previous hymn charts that I made for the Hymns of Zion, Zion’s Harp, etc. In fact, in many cases, Level 3 in the Children’s Harp Chart is similar to Level 1 in the other books.
• The song number is preceded by a few key words from the title. (Since we are not very familiar with the song numbers and corresponding titles in this new book, I wanted to include more than just the numbers; however, typing the titles in their entirety would have taken up too much room.)
• A “*” after a song number: The hymn is conducive to adding chords for harmony in the bass clef. For beginning students, playing a chord at the beginning of each measure is usually sufficient.
• A “+” after a song number: The hymn can easily be played as a duet (often with one student playing the treble clef and the other student playing the bass clef). Actually, any of numbers in Level 3 could also work as a duet.
